Monday 8th October saw the Blues first home fixture of the season when they hosted a young Leicester Tigers outfit keen to impress Director of Rugby Richard Cockerill. Following a disappointing loss at Durham and an encouraging draw at N~Moseley, the Blues were keen to put down a marker in front of a large enthusiastic crowd at Iffley Road. However, it was the Tigers who made he better start when they turned early pressure into points with back row forward George Oliver crossing for an unconverted try after just 3 minutes. However, the Blues were no unnerved by this unfortunate start and fought that way back into the match through some strong forward play and rewarded with a penalty goal from centre Cassian Bramham-Law on his first outing of the season. There were no further scores in the first half with both teams defence on top.
The second half mirrored the first with Tigers getting an early score through prop James Thraves, but this time they added a third score soon after when centre Javiah Pohe intercepted on the half-way line and run in unopposed to score under the posts for fly-half Oliver Bryant to ad the extras. The Blues again showed their spirit and determination and with the clocking ticking down to full-time scrum-half and Oxford Man of the Match Sam Egerton burrowed over from short range to make the final score 17-8 in favour of the visitors.
The Blues next fixture is back on the road, when they visit Richmond on Monday 15th October, KO 7.45pm at the Athletic Ground.
