Freshman Gus Jones (St Catherine’s) has been called in to the England U20’s match day squad for their opening Six Nations encounter with Scotland at Plymouth Albion’s ground on Friday night, kick-off 6.00pm. He will be among the replacements and will hope to make an impact from the bench.
Gus arrived in Oxford from Eton College in September after captaining the England U18’s touring party to South Africa in the summer. Despite being only 18, he quickly established himself in the Blues squad and was ultimately rewarded for all his hard work last term when he replaced Captain John Carter midway through the first half in the 2012 Varsity Match at Twickenham. Far from being unnerved by this early introduction, Gus went on to play an important part in Oxford’s victory. The match will be televised live on Sky Sports from 5.45pm on Friday evening.
