On Saturday OURFC welcomed the Ecole Centrale University from Paris to Oxford for two fixtures against the Greyhounds and Whippets. Because of the number of fixtures scheduled at Iffley Road in the next two weeks, the matches were taken to Littlemore RFC where the conditions were cold and dry, encouraging all teams to play with ball in hand. Both OURFC teams ultimately proved too strong for their French opposition, with the Greyhounds winning 50 points to 7 and the Whippets 76 points to nil. Following the games, the players shared post-match hospitality in the clubhouse whilst watching ‘Le Crunch’, which left our French visitors doubly disappointed! The evening saw the French student enjoying the hospitality on offer at the Vincent’s Club, for which we would like to thank newly elected President Marcus Alexander-Neil (St Hilda’s) for making them feel so welcome and introducing them to the legendary ‘Pinkies & Perkies’!
The Greyhounds scheduled semi-final against Wallingford on Tuesday evening will no longer take place, with Wallingford conceding the tie due to a large number of injuries depleting their already stretched playing resources. The Greyhounds will therefore take their place in the Oxfordshire Cup Final against Chinnor 2nds on Sunday 21st April at Iffley Road, kick off 3.30pm. The Greyhounds last appeared in the final in 1979 when they lost to Henley by 9 points to 3 and their one and only win came in 1976 when they defeated Oxford by 18 points to 6.
