Last weekend the British Colleges Sport National Championships reached their finale at Bath University as part of a wider weekend of College sport with the BCS National Champions decided across all sports. The 10 teams playing in the National Championship represented the winners of their respective regional qualifier events earlier in the year and made up the 10 best college (FE 16-19 year old) sides in the country. The Championship took the form of an exciting, two day, 10-a-side tournament, with a particularly high standard of rugby – a number of the colleges act as feeder pools for some Premiership and Championship Academies. Moulton College ran out the eventual winners.
Tom Eastell (Jesus), President of the Oxford University Referee Society, was selected to be one of the two referees at the event – refereeing every other match. It is fantastic to see our fledgling society making a wider impact outside of rugby at the University and our referees being afforded the opportunity to partake in events such as this. The 2012/2013 season has proven to be a landmark year for the young Society, with numbers of student referees in the society ever growing (recently breaking the 20 mark), the trend seemingly set to continue with another ELRA course booked in for May.
