Sydney University Football Club are celebrating their 150th Anniversary – six years before OURFC – and as part of a year of their celebratory events are playing a fixture against a World University Barbarians team as the curtain raiser to the 3rd Lions Test match at ANZ Stadium, Sydney on Saturday 6th July. The Barbarians squad has been drawn from the leading academic and rugby playing Universities from across the globe, including Oxford, Cambridge, Trinity College, Dublin, Cape Town, Auckland plus many others. In the fortunate position of representing Oxford for the World University Barbarians squad are Sean Morris and Will Rowlands. Sean has been at Oxford as an undergraduate and postgraduate since 2008 during which time he has won three Blues on the wing and at centre, represented England Students, GB Universities 7’s and also played for London Scottish in the English Championship. Currently he is working as the Rugby Development Officer for OURFC and playing rugby league for the newly formed Oxford Rugby Cub, where he has caught the eye of Super League scouts. Will is the 2013 OURFC Team Secretary having come up to Oxford in 2011 after a short period in the Northampton Saints Academy on leaving Rugby School. He won his first Blue in the 2012 Varsity Match victory and made a few of appearances for London Wasps in February and March earlier this year. Both players are honoured and excited to be representing Oxford on such an historic and prestigious occasion, with the thought of playing in the Olympic Stadium prior to what could be the series decider for the Lions an appetising thought! We wish them both well on their travels ‘Down Under’ and look forward to welcoming Sydney University to Oxford in the autumn as part of their 150th Anniversary UK tour when we host them at Iffley Road on Monday 26th November.
