OUWRFC celebrate Varsity victory at Iffley Road

On a perfect day for rugby, OUWRFC were successful in both Varsity Matches at Iffley Road on Saturday afternoon – the second year running they have done the double, the Panthers overcoming the Tigers 29 points to 14 and the Blues edging home in a thriller 17 points to 12.
With an early morning kick off, the Panthers secured victory in fine style scoring five tries to two, with full-back Tess Braunerova (SEH) leading the way with four on her own and picking up the Player of the Match award, wing Beck Bibb (Queen’s) added the fifth with centre Reem Hafez (GTC) adding two conversions.
In true Varsity tradition, the Blues match was a much tighter affair, with the result in doubt right up until the final whistle with the large vocal crowd on the edge of their seat waiting for full-time! The Blues cored two tries, from Player of the Match Jessie-Joy Flowers (SEH) playing at fly-half in her fourth Varsity Match and from flanker Ann Tivey (Magdalen) while centre Esther Gosling (St Hilda’s) enjoyed a fine afternoon with the boot kicking both conversions and a penalty.
