Action from the fixture at the Hertford College ground

The Virginia Military Institute, USA enjoyed a good week in Oxford on their overseas tour to the UK last week, under the guidance of Coach Wayne Howe and Manager Col Looney with a party of 25 players. Due to the back-log of Cuppers fixtures they were unfortunately only able to pay one match against a Colleges Barbarians XV at Hertford College ground on the Wednesday afternoon. The Baa Baas under the Captaincy of OURFC player Will Boardman (New), had 7 different colleges represented in their XV and ultimately they proved too strong for the game US students and ran out victors by 57 points to 12. However, the US guys played with much heart and commitment and kept going for the full 80 minutes, indeed scoring the final point of the match on the stroke of full-time! Their Man of the Match was loose-head prop Cadet Olivas who enjoyed a strong match in both the tight and loose, despite losing his lunch in the second half! The tour party also took advantage to watch the OURFC senior squad train on Tuesday evening and returned to Iffley Road on the Friday night to watch the Blues exciting victory over Bristol. Away from the rugby field, the party enjoyed excusrions to Christ Church College, various Oxford Museums and perhaps the highlight, a visit to The Vincent’s Club on Wednesday evening for some post-match hospitably with their opponents, where they also made friends with the Oxford University Netball team!
