Following an encouraging second half performance last week against Bristol, the Blues go into Tuesday’s game against Worcester buoyed with confidence. The game will take place on Armistice Day and the club will look to commemorate the 55 Blues that died in the First World War. As a mark of respect to all those who serve for our country, all service men and women, past or present, will receive FREE admission for the game. Tuesday will also mark one month to go until the 133rd Varsity Match and with just four matches left, the players will want to give a strong performance to impress the coaches before the crunch game. Head coach James Wade and Captain Jacob Taylor have made two changes to the Blues side that lost to Bristol last week, with flanker Sam Peter and centre, Alexander Macdonald replacing Will Thomas and Basil Strang respectively. Speaking ahead of Worcester’s visit to Iffley Road, Wade acknowledged that his side still have a lot of work to do in order to prepare for Varsity. “We know that Cambridge are preparing well and the key for us is that the players know how much work we have to put in to enable us to perform at Twickenham. A large part of our work will be based on controlling our own game and cutting out the large number of basic errors we have been making.” The Blues last faced Worcester just over a year ago, putting in a good performance, and narrowly losing 25-34 on the night with tries from Nick Gardener, Will Rowlands and Henry Lamont. Worcester, who compete in the Aviva A League, have been in incredible form this season, winning all four of their league games and are joint top of the table. James Wade paid special tribute to Worcester, saying, “They are pro outfit so they will play with pace all over the field so I’m sure our defence will be sternly tested.”
