Oxford finish their preparation for the 133rd Varsity Match with an away trip to Esher RFC on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s encounter when they thrashed Esher 40-8 with a brilliant team performance – tries coming from John Carter, Jacob Taylor, Ed Doe, Fraser Heathcote, James Wisson and John Davidson. OURFC look to extend on their good victory in mid-week when they beat Loughborough XV 43-0.
Oxford man-of-the-match that night, George Messum told OURFC.org that confidence is high in the Blues changing rooms. “We have a few slight issues that we will be working on in the next two weeks,” Messum said, “But we remain confident of a good result and performance against Esher”.
Esher have hit a good run of form recently in the National League One and have won their last three games, with solid wins against Blackheath, Rosslyn Park and Loughborough Students. Blues coach, James Wade, has warned his side to be wary of Esher winger Spencer Sutherland who has been in scintillating form this season, scoring eight tries in nine matches for the Surrey based team.
Kick-off is at 2pm at Esher RFC. The boys would really love your support in their last game before Twickenham but if you can’t be there then follow the updates on Twitter @OURFCBlues.
