After a rather disjointed season, with cancelled fixtures and injuries disrupting their preparation, the Oxford U21’s have announced their squad to take on their Cambridge counterparts at Twickenham on Thursday 11th December, kick off at 11.30am. The coaching team have been able to call upon just two of last year’s starting XV and a further two who were on the bench, so whilst the Blues have huge experience this U21 team will be the opposite. However, they have four players who have been involved with the senior squad for a lot of the term who will bring much needed experience to the team, in second row Tom Hilton-Stevens – playing in his third U21 Varsity Match, back row Ralph Weir – who lead the Greyhounds with such distinction in their Varsity Match on Wednesday – plus a Freshman half-back pairing in the livewire Matt Geiger at scrum-half and the more calming influence of Kit Goodfellow at fly-half. The side will be lead by second row Thomas ‘Harry’ Wetherald playing in his second U21 Varsity Match and he believes they have the squad and ability to reverse last year’s loss.
