Last Friday, members of the 2014 Blues squad visited local Oxford primary school, St Mary and St John – just a 3 minute walk form the rugby ground at Iffley Road. The school have been taking part in an art project based around the 55 Oxbridge Blues who lost their lives in World War I. As part of The 133rd Varsity Match’s commemoration events, 20 paintings from St Mary and St John, as well as 20 from The Grove School in Cambridge will be displayed at The Spirit of Rugby Restaurant at Twickenham on Thursday.
The young artists will be attending the match to cheer on the Dark Blues and also to see their Masterpieces on display. They have produced a fantastic and diverse array of artwork and the project has really helped them to engage with the history behind the Varsity Match and the individual stories from WWI.
We look forward to welcoming St Mary and St John’s to Twickenham!
