Last week former OURFC Blues Head Coach Lynn Evans went on his annual Pilgrimage to the South of France to attend former French international and France, Toulouse & Italy coach Pierre Villepreux’s Coach Development Course. This year he was accompanied by two ‘Disciples’ in the form of OURFC Blue and Under 21’s Coach Matt Street and current OURFU Rugby Development Officer Joe Winpenny.
The week involved a full-on schedule of 4 hours of delivery per day and 2 hours’ worth of lectures with Pierre as well as social events in the evenings, all done in 35-40 degree heat. The aim of the week is for coaches and facilitors to immerse themselves fully in Pierre’s methodology of play which revolves around three main principles – go forward, close support and continuity. As well as immersing themselves in the rugby, they also fully embraced the French ‘culture’ during the trip, by sampling the local meats, cheeses and not to mention the Vin Rouge.
All of the guys had a very informative and inspiring week and will look to continue their education this time next year.
