The Blues opened not only their 2015 season but the first match in the World University Rugby Cup with a hard earned win over Waseda University by 26 points to 7. Waseda were first to score through their No 8 Joji Sato, converted by fly-half Shingo Asami, before the Blues hit back with a try from centre Henry Lamont converted by fly-half George Cullen. Just before half time the Blues extended their lead when scrum-half Henry de Berker went over for an unconverted try to make the score at the interval 12 points to 7.
The second half saw the Blues add two more tries from debutant wing Tom Stileman and second row Graeme MacGilchrist, both converted by Cullen and stout defence kept the Japanese University scoreless in the second meaning the Blues finished victors by 26 points to 7.
