At a wonderfully sunny Iffley Road on Saturday afternoon the Greyhounds secured their second victory of the week with a well deserved 32 points to 17 win over the Kew Occasionals. The Kews having enjoyed successive victories over the Cambridge LX Club in the past two season arrived harboring hopes of doing the same to the Greyhounds, but RWC fixtures took a toll on availability whcih certainly did not help their cause! However the first half was very evenly contested and the score at the interval was only 18 – 17 in favour of the students, with an ‘upset’ very much on the cards! However the second 40 minutes belonged to the Greyhounds as they added two further converted tries to extend their lead and kept their own line intact to keep the Kews scoreless.
Special thanks to Ollie Shorthose who took the whistle and did a fine job in his first match at this level, having excelled at college level throughout last season.
The Greyhounds now look ahead to their County Cup fixture with local club side Witney on Friday evening, 7.45pm kick off at Hailey Road, Witney.
