Try scorer Ed David in action against Worcester

The Blues travelled the relatively short distance to Blackheath on Tuesday night, however not a  journey to be recommend on a midweek evening, looking to build on the strong second half showing against Worcester two weeks ago. However, because of 3.5 hour bus trip and KO not being delayed the squad had just 35 minutes preparation time and this was reflected in a rather disjointed first half display, not helped when scrum-half Matt Shorthose was taken off injured after just 4 minutes! The home side enjoyed the better of the opening 40 minutes and scored three tries to one George Cullen penalty to e3lad at the interval by 19 points to 3. The Blues came out after the break with renewed intensity and were soon rewarded with a try from centre Ed David, Cullen’s conversion hitting the post. However, this try did not spark a revival on the scoreboard and with both sides making multiple changes in the second period, the game become scrappy not assisted by the referees propensity to blow the whistle for every single infringement. The final word went to Blackheath with an unconverted try with 5 minutes left to make the final score 24 points to 8 in their favour.

The Blues now have just four days to lick their wounds before taking on the Croatian National team in Zagreb on Saturday lunchtime.
