On Monday night, Matthew Shorthose (University College) was elected the new President of The Vincent’s Club for 2016/17. Matt follows a long list of OURFC players who have also been Vincent’s President, the most reason being Marcus Alexander-Neil (St Hilda’s) in 2014/15. Matt is a 5th year medic and won his Rugby Union Blue in 2013, coming off the bench at scrum half. Prior to that Matt represented the Whippets as a Freshman in 2011, then the Under 21’s in 2012 before representing the Greyhounds in 2013 as well as gaining his Blue. Unfortunately injury has curtailed his playing involvement over the last two and a half years, but Matt remains an integral part of OURFC where he took on a coaching role with the U21’s and Whippets in 2014.
At the Vincent’s Club, he has been the Liaison Officer and has dealt with the fallout from last year’s vote and one of Vincent’s Club’s most difficult years, where he demonstrated composure, thoughtfulness, and the decisiveness required to respond to the difficult issues faced during the year. Matt is also the elder brother of Ollie Shorthose (St Hilda’s) who came up to Oxford in September 2014 and was an integral member of the successful Greyhounds Varsity team in 2015.
OURFC wish Matt all the best for his year in office.
