On Tuesday 26th April 2016, David Conway was appointed to the RFU National Panel of Referees having taken up the whistle less than ten years ago whilst a student at Oxford University.
David came up to Oxford in 2005 to study Archaeology & Anthropology at St Peter’s College and pursue his passion for the game of rugby. In his first year, he was a member of the St. Peter’s College team that won Cuppers, in his second year he was elected Captain of the St Peter’s College team, unfortunately he had to retire from playing during that season due to injury. However he was not lost to the game as he took up the whistle in 2007 with the Oxfordshire Referees Society, officiating in the College Leagues & Cuppers, before moving on to local league rugby. Before David left Oxford he also got involved in coaching with OUWRFC, where he coached the Panthers team from 2007-9.
On graduating from Oxford he moved to London to pursue a career as a teacher and joined the London Referees Society in 2013. Since that time he has progressed through the refereeing ranks to the South East Group (National League 3 London & South East) in December 2014, before his appointment to the National Panel this week.
All at OURFC would like to offer our congratulations to David on his recent achievement and wish him all the best for next season.
