The two squads post-match

Following an intense week of training, the OURFC men’s senior squad were looking forward to a first hit out of the season on Thursday night, as they welcomed the Henley Bulls team to Iffley Road. The weather was perfect for fast, attacking rugby and both teams tried to move the ball, but obvious ‘rustiness’ meant the game lacked real continuity, but there were patches of excitement for the small but appreciative crowd to enjoy. The Oxford team were deserved winners by 17 points to 8, all the points coming in the first half, with the pick of the three tries – two for Oxford, one for Henley – was a long range effort by full-back Matt Geiger, who looked particularly sharp all evening, after some excellent handling by the Oxford backs in the build-up play. Fly-half Tom Dyer added 7 points with two conversions and a penalty with Freshman No 8 Ollie Adams adding the second Oxford try, whilst Henley replied with a try and penalty.

The squad now enjoy a weekend off, before resuming again on Monday morning for a further week’s training before departing for a week in Toulon.
