The Greyhounds reached the Oxfordshire County Cup Final for the first time since 2013, with a deserved 23 points to 11 victory over Bicester at Iffley Road on Sunday lunchtime. The Hounds got off to a flying start when after just five minutes, back row forward Ollie Adams stole a Bicester line-out and then strode over from ten metres to score the first try, fly-half Tom Dyer missed the conversion. Bicester hit back not long after with a penalty and then following a concerted period of pressure added a try of their own when the forwards drove over from close range. On the cusp of half-time the Hounds retook the lead and were to stay ahead from this point onwards, when full-back Robbie Fraser hit a nice line and beat a soft tackle to score near the posts, Dyer was this time on target to make the score at the break 12 – 8.
With the wind at the their backs in the second period the Hounds domainated territory and possession and despite the referee finding reason to sin-bin two Oxford players, added a further 11 points to just 3 in reply from Bicester. Outside centre Dan Barley finished off a fine Hounds attacking move to score a third try and Dyer kicked two penalties to make the final score 23 points to 11.
The Greyhounds will now welcome the Oxfordshire Cup holders Banbury RFC to Iffley Road for the final on the evening of Thursday 13th April, kick-off 7.45pm.
