At the recent OURFC AGM in May, Ronnie Lamb stood down as Chairman after many years of dedicated service on the committee. Ronnie has been associated with OURFC for more than 50 years, having spent four years at St Edmund Hall between 1961 and 1965, gaining three Blues in 1962, 63 & 64 the latter as captain. The Varsity Match in 1964 saw Cambridge billed as ‘odds-on favourites’, but thanks to Ronnie’s inspired captaincy the Dark Blues secured a comprehensive 19 points to 6 victory, with The Times headline the next day, proclaiming – ‘Oxford Astonish Critics and Cambridge!’
On Monday evening, OURFC President and Master of Trinity College, Sir Ivor Roberts hosted an informal drinks reception at his lodgings where Ronnie was presented with a bespoke OURFC decanter and tumbler set as a small token of thanks for all his hard work and dedicated service to OURFC.
All at OURFC wish Ronnie and Rosie well as they enjoy more time to spend with their family, but we look forward to welcoming them all to Iffley Road for seasons to come as they continue to support the Blues from the stand.
