On Saturday afternoon at Iffley Road, Oxford defeated Swansea by 53 points to 12 to win the inaugural Ian Williams Cup, in front of a  large crowd who came to celebrate the life of someone who meant so much to them all. The teams were made up of those players who had played with Ian at both Swansea University and Oxford University respectively, plus a few invited guest players.

The rugby was highly competitive, with no quarter asked or given, as Ian would have wanted and provided a great spectacle for those in the stands. Alongside the rugby there was a BBQ and pitch side bar – both things that Ian would have been heavily involved in – plus a raffle and souvenir match programme to raise monies for the Ian Williams Foundation. It is anticipated that between £4 and 5K will have been raised on the day for the Foundation. If you were not able to make it on the day but would like a copy of the souvenir programme please get in touch  with Tim Stevens at tim.stevens@sport.ox.ac.uk or to make a donation to the Foundation please click on this link: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ianwilliamsinmemoriam

Oxford’s 2016 Blues Captain was named Man of the Match for which he was presented with a bottle of Penderyn Welsh Whisky.
