The Whippets secured a fine 1st round win in the Oxfordshire Shield over local club side Faringdon by 60 points to 5 on Sunday afternoon. Because of the heavy rain overnight and during the morning, the game was moved to the new RFU artificial pitch at Horspath Road – a taste of the future for OURFC teams!? The quality of the surface was an important factor in the Whippets being able to play an expansive style of rugby and allowed them to run in a total of ten tries, in an encouraging performance but still leaving plenty to work on. The win means the Whippets can look forward to a quarter-final tie with last year’s Shield runners-up, Wheatley, away on Saturday 10th November. However, before that they will travel to RAF Halton to play the RAF U23’s next Sunday afternoon.
