On Saturday 4th May an Oxbridge U23’s XV took on the United Kingdom Armed Forces U23’s at Twickenham stadium immediately after the 102nd Army v Navy Match. A healthy crowd of approx. 2,000 stayed behind to watch the 10th edition of this encounter and they were royally entertained for the full 80 minutes in game that totally 86 points. The high scoring game was only settled in the final five minutes when Oxbridge managed to get two scores ahead to seal the win by 48 points to 36, which sees them take a 6 – 4 overall lead in the fixture.

Despite only coming together at 11am that morning the Oxbridge side playing in the true ‘Barbarian’ style score four tries in each half, and but for the swirling wind which meant only a 50% conversion rate would have topped the 50-point mark and won more decisively. The back row of Captain Stephen Leonard, Charlie Pozniak and Sam Miller impressed for the students and set the example where the rest followed, whilst centre Jake Hennessey picked up the Man of the Match Award for an impressive performance in both attack and defence.

The Oxbridge try scorers were full-back Dougal Russell, centre Jake Hennessey, hooker John Aaron Henry, scrum-half Charlie Saunders, replacement hooker Miles Huppatz, replacement full-back James Elms and lock Jasper Dix with a double. Hennnessey added two conversions as did wing Tobi Clarke to wrap up the scoring.
