50 years ago to the day, on the 5th November 1969 the Oxford University team took on the might of the South African Springboks, in a match that should have taken place at Iffley Road, but the day before was moved to Twickenham for security reasons because of the threat of anti-apartheid demonstrations. As such Captain Chris Laidlaw took his Blues team to the home of English rugby and caused a mighty upset when they beat their illustrious opponents by 6 points to 3.
