In the first match of the 2019/20 Varsity series, it was the Light Blues who grabbed the spoils as their Lions XV beat the Oxford Colleges XV by 29 points to 26 at Grange Road on Tuesday afternoon. The Cambridge side put in a strong first half to lead 19 – 5 at the interval, and despite a spirited comeback for the men in Dark Blue, the gap was ultimately too much for them to claw back.

Next up in the series is the Men’s 2nd XV Varsity, when the OU Greyhounds welcome the CURUFC LX Club to Iffley Road on Wednesday afternoon, kick off 2pm.

Oxford Colleges XV scorers:

Tries: Eoin O’Sullivan (Oriel), Oscar Marriot-Clarke (Magdalen), Ruairidh Beer (St Edmund Hall), Russell Reid (Corpus Christi)

Conversions: Alec Bannister (St Catherine’s) 3
