The Men’s Blues started 2020 with an entertaining 33 points to 10 victory over Bristol University, and thus retained the Evans/Reeves Trophy for another year. After half an hour it didn’t look as though the Blues would record such as win as Bristol had forged a thoroughly deserved ten point lead with a penalty from full-back Will Sharp and a penalty try from hard wok by the visitors scrum. However, the latter score seemed to ‘pique’ the home side into action and they scored two quick tries from hooker Aaron Henry and flanker Sam Miller, both converted by centre Dan Stoller to lead at the break by 14 points to 10.

The second half saw both sides play with ball in hand and look to spread the ball wide, but first outings post-Christmas also saw plenty of mistakes. However, it was Oxford who manged to take their chances and added a further three tries in the second period from prop Euan Friend, No * Charlie Pozniak and centre Luke Butcher with Stoller converting two to bring his personal tally to 10 points on the night.

The Blues now look forward to the visit of Crawshays Welsh at Iffley Road next Wednesday, kick-off 7.15pm.
