OURFC are delighted to announce that new recruit Manon Johnes has been awarded ‘The Vincent’s Adrian Mee Scholarship for Team Sports’.

Manon who will arrive at Oxford in October, said: “I’m a first-language Welsh speaker from Cardiff and all my education so far has been in Welsh. I will be studying Geography at St Catherine’s from September 2020, having studied French, Geography, Religious Studies and the Welsh Baccalaureate at A Level. I made a deferred entry to university as I wanted to take a year to balance sports commitments with working in my community, teaching in a Welsh medium primary school and working with ALN pupils. Coming from Wales I have played rugby since I was 6, moving up to women’s regional representative level at 15. I was part of the women’s U18 rugby 7’s Welsh team that represented Wales at the 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas, and I gained my first senior cap for Wales Women 15’s whilst in year 12, against South Africa. I have participated in two Six Nations so far and hope to continue to do so. This season I have signed a contract with Bristol Bears and my rugby goals are to continue to improve my skills, to make the selection for the Women’s World Cup 2021 in New Zealand, and to continue to enjoy contributing to local and University rugby week in week out.”
