OURFC Touch was delighted to welcome the return of Mixed Touch Cuppers for 2021, following break a from last year. This year’s edition took place at Iffley Road Stadium across 3 days and involved 16 college teams competing for the trophy. The return of cuppers was highly anticipated by all in a year where opportunities for competitive touch have been extremely limited by COVID-19.
The format consisted of two preliminary tournaments over the weekend of the 15/16th of May, with 8 teams competing each day for a place in the final on the 27th of May.
Saturday’s tournament was won by New College, who beat Teddy Hall in a drop-off filled with drama and suspense, while Sunday’s tournament was won by Worcester who overcame St John’s.
New College and Worcester then faced each other off for the trophy in the final on the 27th back at Iffley. Both teams pushed each other all the way in a very fast paced and entertaining match worthy of a final. In the end Worcester managed to edge it right at the death to claim the title of 2021 Mixed Touch Cuppers winners, adding to their previous success in 2018.
A big thank you to all the participating teams, refs and Tim at OURFC for making this all possible and we look forward to next year’s tournament.
