Whilst the weekend concluded with 2nd XV Varsity Matches at Iffley Rd, there were two other teams in action earlier in the week. On Wednesday night the Men’s Blues played Coventry RFC for the first time in more than 20yrs and put in a strong performance to record another win by 54 points to 12. Then on Friday late afternoon the Whippets concluded their season with the ‘Oxford Derby’ against an Oxford Brookes XV and edged a tight encounter by 7 points to 6.
On Saturday morning at the Oriel College Sports Ground, the Pumas played the Jaguars in the second edition of the Women’s 3rd XV Varsity Match, and despite a spirited performance from the Pumas, the Jaguars ultimately proved too strong and recorded a 22 points to 0 victory and retain the trophy first won in March 2020.
At the same time at Iffley Rd the Greyhounds were looking to reverse last year’s narrow loss at Grange Rd and whilst not putting in a vintage performance showed true ‘Dogs Spirit’ to bring the trophy back to Oxford with a 20 point to 10 victory.
Following on from the men’s match the Panthers were looking to make it three Varsity wins in a row, against the Tigers, but unfortunately came up against a quality team who took the honours and the trophy back to Cambridge with a 24 point to 0 win.
