The Women’s and Men’s Blues played their final matches before Varsity last week, with mixed outcomes. On Wednesday evening at Iffley Road, the Women’s Blues hosted Birmingham University, but unfortunately were only able to play 25 minutes before play was suspended, when Blues second row Eleanor Dunlop suffered a serious ankle injury, which required an ambulance. Eleanor has subsequently undergone an operation at the John Radcliffe Hospital and returned home to rest and recuperate over the Easter holidays. The two teams did manage to get in some ‘live training’ after the incident, as final preparations.

On Saturday afternoon, the Men’s Blues travelled to south west London to face a Richmond XV, and on a sunny afternoon at the RAG secured an exciting 19 all draw, but most importantly all 24 players involved came through without injury.

Attention now turns to 6pm on Sunday evening when Captains Louis Jackson and Jessi Abele will announce their respective Men’s and Women’s Blues squads at The Vincent’s Club for the Varsity Matches to be played at Twickenham on Saturday 2nd April.
