A fresh face at OURFC, Matt joins us with a strong rugby pedigree. Matt hails from Luxembourg and has played for the mighty national side eight times, scoring a try against Estonia which he assures was an 80m interception. Playing his first game of Mens’ senior rugby at the tender age of 15 in Ecuador, Matt has blossomed into a powerful prop, able to play both sides of the scrum. Whilst at Lancaster University, he was somehow persuaded to descend to the front row from Number 8, a testament to his win-at-all-costs character which will prove invaluable come varsity time. Swapping mutant Moldovans for shoeing the Tabs, we couldn’t be happier to have a player of such pedigree and experience in our ranks.
Off the pitch, Matt reverts to a refined history teacher (in training) who can speak no fewer than four languages – although thankfully the conversion of his moustache into a more fashionable goatee has ensured the continuation of his work in schools. Matt owes his interest in history to Asterix and Obelisk (the latter surely serving as a model for his rugby style, and shape too) and shares his interest in teaching kids history with coaching them in rugby as well. There is even more than meets the eye with Matt, whose South American parenthood promises some eagerly awaited Samba shapes on a night out. Descended from a Conquistador no less, here at OURFC we are glad to have such a character among our number – his Conquistador spirit will definitely come in handy when facing off with the Tabs.
