OURFC is proud to be hosting viewings of many of this year’s Six Nations series, beginning this Friday with the opening match as France takes on Wales at the Stade de France. This coincides with the Men*s Blues game v Rams at 7:15pm, so please head on over to the Pavilion for another fantastic game of rugby and to enjoy the bar.
Since their first match in 1908, France and Wales have faced each other in 104 rugby test matches. The score line remains very close, with Wales having won 51 to France’s 50 matches. After last year’s victory went to the French, tensions will be high for this contest in Paris.
This Saturday also sees the beginning of one of the most exciting campaigns for England Men’s Rugby this year: the Six Nations. Kicking off at 4:45pm, they will travel to Dublin to take on the Irish on their home turf at Aviva Stadium. OURFC is proud to bring a viewing to Iffley Road after the Greyhounds take on Richmond at 2:00pm. The match will be free to all spectators, so please come and watch some rugby before settling into the Pavilion for the international match.
When reigning champions, Ireland, came to Twickenham last year, England managed to pull off a breathtaking win. Marcus Smith’s last minute drop goal brought the crowd to their feet and Ireland to their knees as England came back from a deficit at half-time. For the first time since 1974, the 2024 series 50 years later saw England trailing at the break in every single game. Their finishing position of third place demonstrates the excitement of the games as they also managed to turn two others around into victories.
With Maro Itoje stepping up from vice-captain to lead the squad this year and Ben and Tom Curry making history as the first twins to represent England Men, we warmly invite you to watch this match with us at Iffley Road in what is sure to be another nail biter. The Pavilion Bar will be open and our guests from Richmond will be staying to create the perfect environment to enjoy the game.
Other Six Nations matches will also be televised at Iffley Road, including the first home game of the season, when England takes on France at Twickenham next weekend. On Saturday 8th February, the Battle for the City will see Oxford Brookes University bringing teams to take on the Dark Blues at Iffley Road and a big screen will also be showing the Six Nations match at 4:45pm with temporary bars onsite. Please find tickets to all three matches (Women*s & Men*s Blues as well as England v France) here.
